Transformers Prime Darkness Rising DVD review

What a great way to start off the new year by buying the Transformers Prime Darkness Rising DVD at a used price. Upon playing the DVD, it presents the seamless movie version of the series pilot rather than the 5-part version that’s been airing on the Hub for the last two years. When watching it as a movie, it flows very well and could be seen like an animated feature film in the same vein as the Star Wars Clone Wars movie.

The audio for the DVD is either 5.1 surround or 2.0 stereo, but I’d prefer the latter. The video is crisp and clear as there are things you didn’t notice no matter how many times you watch it. It has special features such as the character design and set design that are between 4-5 minutes each as they show from rough draft to the final draft. There’s the animatic pre-visual version of the first part of Darkness Rising where they show the sketch of what the episode will look like before they render it with CGI.

The packaging comes in a sleeve box and it’s by Shout Factory, who has produced the Generation One, Beast Wars, and the Japanese Transformers DVD sets. They have done an incredible job with the Prime series. Do I recommend this DVD? Yes, but only if you can’t afford the upcoming season set that will have the 5-part version of the series premiere.
