CBS announces the return of Star Trek to television in a new series. It has been 10 years since we had the last Trek series called Enterprise. The new TV series will not have anything to do with the reboot movies from Paramount. That is because the rights are split into two – CBS owns the five Star Trek TV series, animated series, and the 10 feature films while Paramount owns the reboot Star Trek movies from 2009 and 2013. However there is a catch, while the premiere episode will air on CBS the rest of the TV series will air on its subscription service exclusively. This will likely turn off many Star Trek who want to see a new Star Trek TV series for a long time. According to the press release from CBS, it will feature new characters and imaginative new worlds and production will begin next year during Star Trek’s 50th anniversary along with the release of the third Star Trek reboot movie, Star Trek Beyond.
