Living For The Future

Young Justice review

The Cartoon Network movie premiere of Young Justice has aired on November 26 and it’s based on the comic series from DC Comics. It’s about a group of young teenage superheroes trying to prove their worth to their mentors, the Justice League of America, while having their own adventures as a team. The main characters consists of Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West), Aqualad (based on the new current version of the comics), and Superboy (based on the current one, Conner Kent). There were other characters such as Speedy, who walked out because he felt they were still being treated like sidekicks, and Miss Martian, who didn’t appear until the end. The Justice League of America have also appeared, but they were not the main focus. Out of the League, Batman, Flash, Aquaman, and Green Arrow were the main focus because they had sidekicks. The art and animation was superb and the tone was a serious one in a cross between the JLA and the Teen Titans. It had the combination of character dynamics, relationships, action, adventure, and humor. This is what the Teen Titans should have been.

The plot involves something happening at Cadmus, which Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad took it upon themselves to investigate on their own thus defying the orders of the Justice League, particularly Batman, who told them to stay put. We see what’s inside Cadmus through their viewpoints that leads them to Superboy, who is the clone of Superman. Superboy’s first meeting was a memorable one as he was telepathically controlled to fight them with his super-strength. We learns that he lacks both flight and heat vision powers thus leaving room for growth similar to the Clark Kent of Smallville. Cadmus consists of Guardian and Dubillex, along with some telepathic genome creatures and the crazy scientist named Jensen, who is the main villain of the story.

Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Superboy have all come alive with their diverse personalities and relationships from the start. The action was well-planned and well-coordinated. The pilot movie also saw them working together that will leave room for them to grow as we get into the series next year. Great start to Young Justice.
