Wonder Woman Movie and DVD review

I never got to see the long-awaited Wonder Woman until it was released on home video back in September 19. Upon viewing it was epic and everything one could hope for in a Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot already played her in last year’s Batman v Superman, where she was the highlight and that her debut as Wonder Woman received positive reviews. It was only fitting that Wonder Woman got a solo movie that’s directed by Patty Jenkins. The movie was sandwiched in-between the present time where Superman was still dead. Here we see her origin story of how she came to be in Man’s World, particularly in London around the time of World War 1. Gal captures the essence of Wonder Woman perfectly and there were nods to Superman: The Movie. Any naysayers would have to be put to rest. Chris Pine of Star Trek plays Steve Trevor and the chemistry between he and Gal was the heart of the film. Matter of fact, the true heart of Wonder Woman was always the triangle of Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor, and Diana Prince.

God of War Ares and Doctor Poison are among the villains along with the evil general played by Danny Huston of the Magic City series. I know the only annoyances were the slow-motion sequences, but I think Patty Jenkins wanted to showcase the power of Wonder Woman. Queen Hippolyta, the Amazons, and Themiscyra looked incredibly real and they were well-received in the film. Matter of fact, they are scheduled to return for the Justice League. Because of the box office success and positive reviews and critical acclaims for Wonder Woman, Warner Brothers have found a savior to their lackluster DCU films and they want to cash in on its success. A sequel has been announced and may take place in the 1980’s. I hope Chris Pine returns as Steve Trevor as I can’t see Wonder Woman with anyone else.

The movie was out in both DVD and Blu-Ray as the regular DVD came out in the 2-disc edition where its second disc contain special features as this is in vein with the previous DCU movies that came out in 2-disc set. No doubt the Blu-Ray has a lot more special features than the regular DVD, which is enough for me. Wonder Woman is a keeper for me and Gal has truly arrived. The ordeal for Wonder Woman being in a film is long passed and it’s time for a Wonder Woman film franchise.
