Supergirl – Elseworlds Part 3 review

Whereas Flash and Arrow succeed, the Supergirl part of the crossover faltered. It was the conclusion of Elseworlds where everything comes to a head as the heroes battle Dr. John Deegan aka Dr. Destiny for all of Earth-1 reality. The standouts in this part were Tyler Hoechlin as both Supermen and Stephen Amell. Supergirl was hardly in this episode. I feel the Flash and Arrow writers have used Supergirl better than her own show’s writers. They need to step it up because the first half of her season, Supergirl was hardly used.

Also having Superman saying Supergirl is stronger and better than him is unnecessary. I feel the writers were doing that for jabs at Superman fans. If Superman is to have his own TV series spinoff, I hope they don’t use the Supergirl writers. New writers are definitely needed for a possible Superman spinoff.

We are introduced to the Earth-1 versions of James Olsen and Alex Danvers. James Olsen is a club bodyguard instead of a reporter while Alex Danvers works for a secret government organization much like our Alex with slight differences, but what Kara has done in this episode is being locked up and trying to get through to the Earth-1 Alex. This Alex should either join Team Flash or the Legends of Tomorrow to be with Sara.

Tyler is all over this episode as both Superman and Dark Superman and did well in distinguish them. Their fight was okay, but Superman has life-changing announcements in that Lois is pregnant and he proposed to her as she accepted. They decide to return to Argo so that their son would be born since Kryptonian and Human biology are incompatible. It looks like neither will return for the second half of Supergirl’s 4th season. They should be able to return for next year’s crossover depending on their schedules.

Oliver’s performance in this was his most well-rounded in that he made a deal with the Monitor. If you watch the entire Elseworlds crossover, this is mainly about him since Marc Guggenheim was in charge of the whole thing. I hope someone else will be in charge of next year’s crossover.

They have announced next year’s crossover. It’s none other than Crisis On Infinite Earths. The end of the Supergirl part of the crossover shows Psycho Pirate doing what he did in the comics, which I had a feeling they were going to end with this. In order to pull off Crisis in live-action tv, all the shows need to be Crisis tie-ins.

Good conclusion to the Elseworlds crossover.
