Farewell Jason David Frank 1973-2022

Actor and martial artist Jason David Frank passed away at the age of 49 after unconfirmed reports of suicide. The second cast member of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to pass away as Thuy Trang passed away in 2001 in a car accident. Matter of fact, they were the last two to join the cast before the show took off. He is best known as Tommy Oliver, who became The Green Ranger, White Ranger, Zeo Red Ranger, Turbo Red Ranger, and Dino Thunder Black Ranger. Frank holds the record of the most appearances out of the Power Rangers and is the face of the franchise. As a martial artist, he holds the highest degrees of Black Belt.

Jason David Frank studied martial arts at a young age and joined the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast in 1993 along with Thuy Trang, played Trini Kwan the Yellow Ranger. The moment he hit the screens as Tommy the Green Ranger, the popularity of the show skyrocketed into stratosphere. Originally he was supposed to be in a limited amount of episodes before moving into a pilot called Cybertron that will be called VR Troopers. His popularity as Tommy caused the producers to bring him back to become Green Ranger on a limited basis and then become the White Ranger. As the White Ranger, he became the new leader of the team.

Frank’s run lasted 3 seasons along with the sequel series Zeo and Turbo, along with two movies Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Turbo: A Power Rangers movie. After his run in the Power Rangers, he continued to act in outside TV projects and run a martial arts school. He was also involved in the MMA where he won several bouts. Frank attended many conventions over the years and did several independent projects, including My Morphin Life and the Super Powered Beat Down as both Green and White Ranger. He also did a voiceover for the Transformers web series Titans Return where he voiced Fortress Maximus’ component The Emissary.

Frank returned to the Power Rangers franchise in anniversary episodes in Wild Force, Dino Thunder, and the 25th anniversary episode of Super Ninja Steel. He also appeared in an unnamed cameo in the 2017 reboot movie along with Amy Jo Johnson. Afterwards, he decided to retire from the Power Rangers after the franchise went from Bandai and Saban to current owner Hasbro. At the time of his death, he was working on a movie project called the Legend of the White Dragon.

Jason David Frank’s contributions to the Power Rangers is towering and cemented. Frank is survived by his four children, including Jenna. He will be missed by his family and Power Rangers fans worldwide.
