Van's Inner Universe

Living For The Future

Smallville – Fierce review

This episode is reminscent of the second episode of the first season as they were trying to regain the things from the earlier seasons that made the show great. We have Kara battling her first meteor freaks, who happened to be weather vixens, as they compete in a beauty pageant contest.

The scenes between Clark and Kara stood out for me where Clark tries to teach her how to control her powers because Clark feels she lacks control while Kara reminds him that no matter what he does on Earth, he will never be human. She knocked some sense into him asking him what he will do in the next 50 years. Very powerful stuff as the show gained a new family dynamic.

The reunion between Clark and Lana was both anticlimactic and strange as Clark’s reaction to Lana’s return was empty and flat. When Lana touched his face, something told me that this isn’t the real Lana. Lana told Clark that she committed a serious crime and Clark didn’t ask what it was. Instead, he just lets her stay at the Kent Farm. Their reunion was balanced out by Kara wearing a bikini, along with the cousins talk about fitting in.

The scene between Lex and Lana was unnecessary and it did nothing for both characters. I thought things between them settled in the last episode but it seems that they want to milk it. I also find it disturbing that Lana would invite Lex to the Kent Farm behind Clark’s back. That’s very disrespectful unless this is the Lana clone.

I suppose that both Clark and Lana are trying to fill the void left by the beloved Jonathan and Martha Kent as they were discussing about Kara. Neither Clark and Lana are in the position of mentoring and giving advices because Clark doesn’t have enough foundation to become Superman & hasn’t mastered flying while Lana needs to clear her name before she does anything else.

There is a triangle forming between Kara, Jimmy Olsen, and Chloe Sullivan and a new relationship between Kara and Lex Luthor, who believes she’s the one who saved him from the waters. I find it funny that Grant calls Jimmy ‘Panda Boy’.

The fight between Kara and the weather girls is very funny and it’s even more funny when Clark gets his tail kicked by the three weather vixens.

Also, why is Lana at the town gathering when everyone else thinks she’s dead? Does nobody care that Lionel Luthor is MIA?

Good filler episode for Kara, but not for Clark. However, the episode got 4.75 million viewers so that’s up from last week’s episode. A surprise right there.
