Star Wars: Clone Wars – A Galaxy Divided DVD review

I’ve bought the Star Wars: Clone Wars A Galaxy Divided DVD on its release date because I wanted to get into the Clone Wars series. This DVD contains the first four episodes of the series. The first episode is Ambush and focuses on Jedi Master Yoda. The next three episodes are among my favorite as they deal with the menacing ship called The Malevolence and General Grievous is the villain of the story-arc. It felt like the original trilogy.

The constant of these episodes and the Clone Wars movie is the relationship between Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano as Jedi Master and Padawan that’s an echo of both Anakin and his former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. It’s also nice to see Jedi Master Plo Koon involved in this as he also plays a major role as well. We also get to learn more about the clones as they share the same DNA, but different personalities.

Like the Clone Wars movie, these episodes are shown in widescreen and they’re half-hour episodes. However, they feel like mini-Star Wars movies which is probably the intention of George Lucas and the animators of the series. The look of the characters are based on the original Clone Wars series, so they’re doing this in 3-D CGI.

I know that there are many that want to get the full first season set in the Fall, but I’d rather get this and the next volume so that I can get through. These are great sampler volumes to have. Unfortunately, there are no extra special features in this DVD and not even commentaries. I’m sure that will be included in the first season set.

A great introduction to the Clone Wars series, but even greater if you have this with the movie which I do. I enjoy the Clone Wars more so than the live-action films themselves.
