Van's Inner Universe

Living For The Future

Arrow – Heir To The Demon review

The episode sees the debut of Nyssa Al Ghul, one of Ra’s Al Ghul’s daughters, who comes to Starling City to bring Sarah Lance back to the League of Assassins. It was during the course of the episode that we find out that they are Lesbians and the producers threw that out in the open immediately. Nyssa came across as an awesome villain and someone who can be used again down the line perhaps in targeting the Lance family through someone else and maybe go after Malcolm Merlyn. The fights and action stuff were awesome such as Arrow and Canary chasing the van that has Sarah’s mother, the 2-on-1 fight against an assassin, and the fight between Oliver and Nyssa. The result has Sarah being freed from the League of Assassins for now and coming home to Starling City to try to rekindle her relationship with Oliver.

The second storyline has Felicity talking to Oliver, Moira, and Walter about Tempest concerning Moira’s affair with Malcolm Merlyn that resulted in Thea being born to both Moira and Malcolm. One thing that bothered me was that this wasn’t Felicity’s business to be involved with and was thrust into this out of nowhere. I hope there can be consequences for Felicity’s actions, but we see Oliver ending his relationship with his mother for keeping many secrets and lies, a trait that runs in the family.

The flashbacks with the Lance family showed what happened to them before Sarah got on the boat with Oliver, but it was unnecessary as there was not much we didn’t already know about. That screentime could have been used for flashbacks with Oliver, Slade, and Sarah. However, the flashbacks showed the Lance family in happier times in contrast to the present where things are in disarray where Dinah Laurel’s reaction to Sarah was one of anger and rage as she blames Sarah for stealing her life. She also went as far as throwing Sarah out of her apartment. That line was also a message from the writers that Dinah Laurel isn’t working at all for the show. Dinah Laurel is doing this while she’s drinking in front of everyone.

We also have the return of Dinah Drake Lance, mother of both Dinah Laurel and Sarah and wife of Detective Lance, as she’s involved in the flashbacks and in the present storyline where she’s kidnapped. Also, after last week that focused on  Roy Harper he’s not in this episode and there was a deleted scene involving he and Nyssa. Good thing the producers cut it out as their reason was not moving the story along, but I find that hard to believe Nyssa could take down Roy since he has Mirakulu in him.

Good episode overall.
