Supergirl – Suspicious Minds review

While the Flash was not off to a great start, Supergirl on the other hand was. They started off with Supergirl’s double Red Daughter who continues to train in Russia as she’s watched by her Russian officers. This is the producers’ way of reminding us that she is not forgotten in the midst of the other storylines. I have to say that Red Daughter has a cool suit. We never heard her speak, other than speaking Russian. I wonder how long will it be before they unleash her and have her interact with Supergirl.

The hook of this episode is that Colonel Haley is determining to find out Supergirl’s identity. Since Supergirl left the DEO, she is operating on her own without anyone watching her. This comes into place when she refuses to follow the DEO’s order of stepping aside. This causes Colonel Haley to investigate Supergirl’s identity and she’s going to start with Alex and the other DEO agents.

Also ties into the secret project that Colonel Haley was involved in as Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, and Alex investigate it together. Speaking of J’onn, he’s set up his detective agency that is closer to his comics counterpart. I can see Supergirl working there along with Nia Nal once she embraces her superhero destiny.

Brainiac 5 has a lot more to do in this one as he is the one to suggest having Supergirl working for J’onn’s agency as well as getting interrogated by Colonel Haley, along with getting Nia to embrace her destiny. He is a great addition to the cast as I hope he sticks around next season. I think Brainy will form the 21st Century version of the Legion of Superheroes.

What we did not see coming was at the end when J’onn mindwiped Colonel Haley’s knowledge of Supergirl’s identity as well as the DEO agents, along with Alex. This will lead into the next episode that will see the consequences of it. Kara did acknowledged the crossover in terms of Alex’s Earth-1 counterpart, who doesn’t know who she is. I think Alex’s Earth-1 counterpart is a foreshadow of our Alex here.
