Living For The Future

The Flash – Armageddon Part 1 review

The Flash begins the 8th season with a 5-episode crossover called Armageddon. It’s loosely based on a DC comics storyline. Unlike past crossovers that spilled into other DCU shows, this is all in the Flash. They approached this like a feature film. The opening intro was a nod to Zack Snyder’s Justice League. When they embarked this, the showrunners revealed that we would see guest-heroes. The first guest for the first part is none other than Atom Ray Palmer, who is at a good place with his wife Nora but yet hasn’t seen her father.

They had to begin the 8th season with Flash looking strong and confident after last season saw his and Iris’ future children and renewing their wedding vows. Iris’ condition from her time in the Mirrorverse is also touched on as well. We see Flash saving the people from the colliding trains and taking out the new and improved Royal Flush Gang  that was done Smallville-style. The Royal Flush Gang looked better in this than in Arrow.

Then comes Despero, who makes his live-action debut as he comes from the future where Flash betrays and terrorizes everyone 10 years from now. I have a pretty good idea on how that goes down. What we don’t know is whether Despero is from our Earth or another Earth. If he’s revealed to be from another Earth, this will mark Barry knowing about the new Multiverse. It’s nice to see Flash and Atom team-up against Despero, who looks real good in live-action CGI. I wonder why does he need to go back and forth between his real alien form and Human form.

This marks a first where there is no Cisco or Harrison Wells as they left the show and both Bart and Nora have returned to their future time. Also Caitlin Snow is also in a good place in keeping balance with her other self, Killer Frost. For someone who doesn’t have powers, Iris sure knows how to get there in a flash. They’re setting up the rest of the crossover. Good episode overall.
