Supergirl – The 6th and Final Season review

CW announced that Supergirl’s 6th season will be its final one and will be 20 episodes. The premise of the season sees them battling both Lex Luthor and the 5th Dimensional sorceress named Nyxly. There would be obstacles along the way. The season started with Supergirl and her team battling Lex, who sent Supergirl to the Phantom Zone while the rest of her team had to defend National City without her while trying to find a way to bring her back.

In the first half we see Supergirl reuniting with her Kryptonian father Zor-El in the Phantom Zone. We could have seen a family reunion with Kara, Zor-El, and Allura, played by Erica Diurance. This would distinguish her from Superman in that she has her Kryptonian parents while Superman lost his. Despite this storyline, Melissa was hardly in the first half due to her maternal leave, along with the pandemic. The two-part Midvale was the highlight of the first half and marks the first time Melissa was fully absent. Chyler Leigh made her directorial debut when she directed the second half of the Midvale two-parter. The first season ended with the team finding both Supergirl and Zor-El.

The second half of the season has Supergirl trying to show Zor-El life on Earth before he left for Argo City to reunite with Allura. We have Supergirl and her team dealing with Nyxly over the totems and Mxyzptlk was even involved before his demise. We didn’t see Lex Luthor again until the final 3 three episodes, two of which became Supergirl’s two-hour series finale much like Smallville’s finale was.

Also during the second half saw Alex Danvers and Kelly Olsen growing closer while other storylines had to be resolved, with Dreamer and her mother and sister. They also brought back plenty of past alumni and Easter eggs from past seasons to wrap up the series. The series finale gave Alex Danvers her happy ending while showing why Kara went away quietly that may have tied in to why she didn’t appear in Superman & Lois. It’s full circle for the show as Supergirl’s 1st season had 20 episodes and it’s final season was also 20 episodes. It was a great run and we want to thank the cast and crew for 6 years and 6 seasons full of super adventures.A heck of a ride.
